We get excited about a new year: it’s a chance for us to share a preview with you of what’s ahead for World of Darkness! Let’s get right into it.

Tabletop Roleplaying Games

It’s a big year for players and storytellers of World of Darkness chronicles!

When will you Rage? Soon! The long-anticipated Werewolf: The Apocalypse 5th Edition tabletop roleplaying game joins the pack this year. You’ve already seen some Developer Diaries and heard some W5 sneak peeks on this website and in our WoD News streams. Or check out some of Justin Achilli’s recent tweets about his progress in developing the book, including his announcement that it’s now in editing!

We cannot wait to see and hear about your Werewolf chronicles as you dive into this action-packed reimagining of the classic game. W5 arrives later this year along with a themed Storyteller Screen and specialty dice from Renegade Game Studios.

Joining our Vampire: The Masquerade coterie we have the VTM Players Guide, which packs in many pages of new and collected material for all enthusiastic Kindred. Also joining is Blood Sigils, which provides a deeper look into the role that Blood Alchemy and Blood Sorcery can play in your chronicles — not merely as powers, but as the focus of meaningful, exciting stories.

The hunt continues with Lines Drawn in Blood, a new sourcebook for Hunter: The Reckoning that gives you a collection of four Hunter stories. Use one or all of them to start a new chronicle, or easily drop these stories into an existing one.

You can learn more about some of these titles this February at RenegadeCon, the annual online convention from our partners at Renegade Game Studios on February 3rd and 4th. You’ll especially want to join us for a World of Darkness Reveals & Deep Dive Stream: 2:30 PM PST, February 4th.

Official Actual Play Streams

We’re all waiting to find out what happens when Kindred from the two coteries at the center of New York by Night finally meet in season 3. When we last saw the Anarch coterie, they had just dealt with a ravening wight that was stalking their domain, but in the process discovered that not all of them shared the same ambitions or ideas about what makes a good unlife. Our Camarilla coterie ended its season with a tense confrontation that seemed to have divided their loyalties, at least for now, as they grapple with a dangerous conspiracy of sires. When the chronicle returns this year, we’ll see all these stories of personal vampiric horror finally intertwine.

Community

The new year brings even more development to our official V5 Wiki project. Many community members have already volunteered their time and expertise to add more helpful content to this invaluable resource. We are especially grateful to the volunteers who are in the process of translating the wiki into different languages, including Portuguese-Brazilian, Spanish, and Ukrainian. If you would like to be a contributor, please join our official World of Darkness Discord server and check the #wiki-collab channel for more details.

October brings us the Month of Darkness, our favorite time of the year when we bring you something new, fun, and interesting every day for 31 days as our way of saying thank you to our community. We heard you liked our music playlists on YouTube – more will come this year to bring you more moody vibes to play in the background of your chronicles or character creation!

Board and Games

We aren’t leaving out you hobby gamers who like to convert your home tables into dramatic situations that pit Kindred against Kindred! Vampire: The Masquerade Rivals enjoys new releases this year, while Vampire: The Eternal Struggle gets new preconstructed decks: Ravnos, Salubri, and Tzmisce. And Vampire: The Masquerade – CHAPTERS will soon arrive for Kickstarter backers.

Hey Now, Hey Now Now

The World of Darkness team gained new members in recent months! We were joined by Nikola Filipov as a Licensing Manager, Viktor Bovallius as a Marketing Campaign Manager, and we plan to grow our coterie even more in the months ahead. These roles all support the brand’s continuing growth and help us achieve our ambitious future goals

We are saying a very fond farewell to our World of Darkness Creative Director, Justin Achilli. The author and designer of a wide range of World of Darkness games, rulebooks, and supplemental material over the last 25 years, Justin rejoined the World of Darkness team in the summer of 2020, braving a global pandemic and a transcontinental move to guide our creative direction through a critical time in in the brand’s development. Most recently he led the creative teams that created Hunter: The Reckoning 5th Edition and Werewolf: The Apocalypse.

We, and the World of Darkness community, will miss him very much, and he would like our community to know that.

“I love the World of Darkness as much as ever and am looking forward to new video games, tabletop games, actual plays, and more in the months to come, and look forward to remaining part of its kickass community.”

“No love for…!?!”

Didn’t see what you were hoping for in this update–like, video games, perhaps? Never fear, we have much more to share with you in the months ahead… but we’re waiting for a dramatically appropriate moment!
